Definitions
The following terms shall have the following meanings as used in these Series 400 policies:
Licensed employees, including administrators, are those employees required to hold an appropriate license from the Iowa Department of Education for their position as required by the Board of Educational Examiners or others with professional licenses. Licenses required for a position will be considered met if the employee meets the requirements established by the Iowa Department of Education.
It is the responsibility of the superintendent to establish job specifications and job descriptions for licensed employees’ positions, other than the position of the superintendent. Job descriptions may be approved by the board.
Licensed employees must present evidence of current license to the board secretary prior to payment of salary each year.
Classified employees are employees who are not administrators or employees in positions which require an Iowa Department of Education teaching license and who are employed to fulfill the duties listed on their job description on a monthly or hourly basis. Classified employees will include, but not be limited to, teacher and classroom associates, custodial and maintenance employees, secretarial employees, food service employees, bus drivers, mechanics and temporary help for summer or other maintenance. The position may be full-time or part-time.
It is the responsibility of the superintendent to establish job specifications and job descriptions for classified employee positions. Job descriptions may be approved by the board.
Classified employees required to hold a license for their position must present evidence of their current license to the board secretary prior to payment of wages each year.
The requirements stated in the Master Contract between employees in that certified collective bargaining unit and the board regarding mandatory issues of such employees will be followed.
Full-time Employee. The term “full-time employee” shall include all employees who regularly work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week.
Nonlicensed Employee. The term “nonlicensed employee” shall include the following employees, whether full-time or part-time:
a. Custodial and maintenance employees. b. Secretarial employees. c. Educational associates and aides. d. Food service employees. e. Transportation employees.
Part-time Employee. The term “part-time employee” shall include all employees who regularly work less than forty (40) hours per week.
Supervisor. The term “supervisor” in our District would be the Transportation Director and Food Service Director.
Temporary Employee. The term “temporary employee” shall include all employees who have been employed for a period of time of four consecutive months or less. In addition, all substitute teachers, shall be deemed temporary employees.
