Recorder Unit for 4th Grade Students!
As a part of Davis County Elementary School’s music curriculum, 4th grade students will be learning how to play the soprano recorder in music class. Learning to play recorders serves as an introduction to playing wind instruments as well a way to practice breath control, finger coordination, and self-discipline. We will begin the recorder unit this March.
If your family does not already own a recorder, purchasing a recorder is fairly inexpensive. A quality Peripole recorder can be purchased through the school for $5.00 (comes with a zippered case, neck strap, fingering chart, and care accessories). For families who do not feel comfortable purchasing a recorder, the school has a limited number of quality recorders that students may borrow from Ms. Schmidt during class time. If you need to borrow, your student will be assigned a numbered recorder that will be sterilized before and after use. If your family already owns a recorder, that is fine too – just have your student bring it to Ms. Schmidt to make sure it is in good working order!
We will use Recorder Karate and other supplemental materials to learn fingerings and songs that your students will be able to play for you. Students who own their own recorder will be able to take them home to practice.
Thank you again for your continued support of your children and their musical growth!
