Due to weather and road conditions, Davis County Schools will not have school in-person on Tuesday, February 16. Tuesday’s classes will be held virtually instead.

Dear Fifth Grade Parents/Guardians:
During the week of February 16th, your child will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) Screening. This is a screening measure that is administered to all fifth grade students at Davis CSD. The CogAT provides a snapshot of your child’s abilities in the areas of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal functioning. The verbal battery assesses verbal inductive reasoning, problem solving, and verbal comprehension. The quantitative battery measures general abstract reasoning skills, particularly inductive reasoning and specific mathematical reasoning skills. The nonverbal battery assesses inductive reasoning skills. The nonverbal battery differs from the verbal and quantitative measures in that it does not require the student to use information gained from other experiences to solve problems.
The CogAT Screening is approximately 45 minutes long and is just one piece of data that school staff will review to both assess and plan for your child’s educational program. We expect to have testing completed and be able to share a summary of results at Parent/Teacher Conferences.
If you would like a better understanding of this assessment, you can find information from the publisher at www.cogat.com.
Thank you,
Susan Hazen

Davis County Schools will be back to regular schedule and regular bus routes on Wednesday, February 10.

Middle School Concert Recording Days
Middle School music students will be recording their concert songs on the days below. Please have students look nice on those days since these recordings will be shared with family members. We have told the students to dress up like they would for "picture day". We will let parents and students know when the recordings are ready to view, it will probably take a couple of days to prepare them after recording. Have your child log into Mr. Gingerich's or Mrs. Cook's Google Classroom on their school device and they can show the recording to anyone who would normally attend the concert. The recordings cannot be posted to Facebook or YouTube due to copyright laws.
Recording Days:
Tuesday, Dec. 15th - 5th Grade Band and 7/8th Grade Band
Wednesday, Dec. 16th - 6th Grade Band and 6th Grade General Music
Thursday, Dec 17th - 7/8th Grade Chorus

Parents and Students, tomorrow, Friday December 4th, B&C School Pictures will be here to take pictures again for those students
who have missed the first 2 rounds. Students can pick up picture packets in the offices or parents can order on line at www.bcschoolpictures.com

Middle School Holiday Concert Will Be Virtual
The Middle School Holiday Concert originally scheduled for Dec. 8th has been cancelled. While band, choir, and general music are classes, we decided to follow Governor Reynolds's directive for no middle school activities and do our part to support not gathering large groups of people together at this time. The students will still be practicing and preparing recordings of their holiday performances to share with their family via their school device. We will let families know when that is ready for you to enjoy. It was a very difficult decision and we appreciate everyone's understanding during these unprecedented times.

Teachers have communicated the specifics for students within this plan.

Davis County Schools will have a 3rd Round of Picture retakes on the morning of December 4th for anyone that missed the first 2 sessions.

Last night, the DCCSD Board of Directors approved the following changes to the school schedule:
Monday (11/23) and Tuesday (11/24) will be required virtual learning days. Students will NOT attend school in person on these days. Please be watching for more specific instructions for these days being sent from each building later this week. Please visit our website or Facebook to fill out the lunch survey if you would like to have meals delivered on Monday and Tuesday.
Starting Monday (11/30), the district will have two hour late starts every Monday that students are scheduled to be in school. This means that November 30, December 7, and December 21, school will start at 10:15. Transportation schedules will be adjusted. December 14 will remain a professional development day and no students will attend. This plan will be in place through the end of February. The district will re-evaluate the situation mid-February and determine whether or not to continue the late starts into the spring.
The situation in our state is changing very rapidly. If the district needs to change the delivery format of instruction, please know that we will send messages via mass email/text/phone calls, post announcements on the district website, and post announcements on the district Facebook page.

Please use this form to sign up for meals for Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24.

In response to the high percentage of positive COVID-19 cases and their effects on the number of students and staff requiring quarantine and/or isolation, Davis County Schools has decided to cancel school for students on Thursday, November 12 instead of the planned early dismissal. Parent-Teacher conferences will continue as planned on Thursday. Practices for students participating in extracurricular activities will be allowed to continue on Thursday and Friday, but will not be considered mandatory.
We hope this extended weekend will provide some much needed rest and recuperation for students and staff and help prevent further spread of the virus. School will resume on Monday, November 16th as planned.

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the cancelation of our Cross Country banquet scheduled for this evening due to the rise in COVID19 cases in our area. I want our athletes and families safe...this is why I feel that this is the right decision... I will be at the high school tomorrow (right after school in the cafeteria) to hand awards to our athletes. Please look for me! I can catch the middle schoolers over the next few days.

Please use this form to sign up for meals for Friday, November 13.

Some decorated pumpkins with kind words to help decorate the hospital, Care Center and Davis Center. Finally, we created posters to hang in our building and songs to play on our school news.

The Middle School has accumulated quite an assortment of clothing, shoes, hats and other items in our Lost and Found area. Please make sure you check out the items if you are missing any at home. All items will be removed from the building on Friday the 25th.

Dear Davis County,
Please know we decided to cancel school today instead delaying because weather and road conditions would not improve enough in time to run buses this morning. NOAA weather reports show that temperatures will improve enough this afternoon to allow us to host the high school bowling meet and high school basketball games this evening as scheduled. We will also allow high school programs to practice if they chose to do so, but will not require students to attend if they or their parents are not comfortable being on the roads. All middle school events and practices however are cancelled today.
Sincerely,
Dan Maeder, Superintendent
