- Most colleges have a formal appeals (or informal negotiation) process, in which students can write a letter requesting their financial aid packages be reconsidered.
- Even in normal years, students have a particularly good shot at more financial aid if (1) their family’s financial circumstances have changed, like a parent losing their job, and (2) if they have received a higher financial aid offer from a similar college.
- This year, however, colleges may be more willing to provide additional financial assistance.
