SAEBRS Screener Information

Dear elementary parents and guardians:

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children develop awareness and management of their emotions, set and achieve important personal and academic goals, use social-awareness and self-awareness skills to establish and maintain positive relationships, and demonstrate responsible decision making and responsibility to achieve success. There is strong research indicating that these SEL competencies improve students’ social and emotional development, readiness to learn, classroom behavior, and academic performance.

The state of Iowa has developed and implemented social and emotional standards as part of learning for all students, including students in the Davis County Community School District.  As part of this, students in 2nd-4th grade will participate in a screener called My SAEBRS.  SAEBRS stands for Social, Academic, Emotional, Behavior Risk Screener.  Students will complete 20 computer-based questions related to their academic, emotional, and social skills. This type of screening strengthens our efforts to help all of our students be successful in both social-emotional and academic areas. We will give the screener three times this year, in the fall, winter and spring.

This screener is voluntary and the results are confidential. If you have any questions please call Ashley Tuvera at 641-664-2200 EXT 2828 or email at ashley.tuvera@dcmustangs.com .

If you wish to have your child not participate for the 2023-2024 school year, please return the bottom portion of the attached letter with your child to their teacher by September 30, 2022. You need only respond if your child will not be participating.
