Dear Davis County Families,
With profound sadness, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Elias Steffen, beloved son of Kyle and TaNisha and cherished brother of Everleigh and Leo. As many of you know, the Steffen family has faced an incredibly difficult journey with Elias’s health. After exhausting all possible options, they have had to say goodbye to their beloved son and brother.
There are no words to fully express the depth of this loss, and our hearts go out to the Steffen family during this unimaginable time. As a school community, we know that grief touches each of us differently, and our children may have questions or emotions they struggle to understand.
If you are looking for ways to support your child in processing this loss, here are a few suggestions:
- Use simple, honest, and age-appropriate language.
- Encourage them to ask questions and answer as best you can.
- Let them know their feelings—whether sadness, confusion, or even anger—are normal and valid.
- Remind them they are not alone, and that our school community is here to support them.
Our school counselors and staff are available to support both students and families during this difficult time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you or your child need guidance or a listening ear.
Out of respect for the Steffen family’s privacy, we kindly ask that everyone allow them the space they need as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. In particular, we ask that students refrain from asking the family about Elias's passing while at school. School can be a place of comfort and routine for them, and giving them the opportunity to engage in their day without difficult conversations will be an important part of their healing. Your quiet support, thoughts, and prayers mean so much to them.
In the days ahead, let’s continue to come together as a community, offering love, strength, and compassion to one another.
DC Elementary Parents! Thursday, March 13th is a 12:30 early dismissal. Please make sure to send a note or call the Elementary office to let us know your child's after school plans for the early dismissal if it differs from their normal after school routine. This will help us make sure the 12:30 dismissal runs as smoothly as possible. Thank you for your help!
DC Elementary Families! Due to today being a virtual learning day, all elementary students who were scheduled to visit the book fair today will be worked into the schedule tomorrow, Thursday, March 6th, so that everyone has a chance to go. Thanks for your understanding!
Due to weather – Davis County Schools will have a Virtual Learning Day on Wednesday, March 5. There will be no in-person classes on Wednesday. Students should complete assignments as directed by their teachers.
Karter Banks, Emery Melvin, Dakota Gevock, and Myla Allen were rewarded with movie tickets to the Bloomfield Iowa Theatre courtesy of Lynch Realty. They were acknowledged by their teachers for consistently being kind to others and respectful students.
Kindergarten had their 100th day of school parties last week. Mrs. Garmon and Mrs.Taylor's class (pictured) made crowns, dressed up, and decorated their door! #DavisCountyKindergarten
#DCPreschool visited the Post Office on February 11th to mail their items. Parents provided mailing addresses of loved ones for their preschoolers to send them valentines. How cute!

The DC Elementary Book Fair will be here March 3rd - March 7th, 2025. Students will be attending during their scheduled library time that week. More information will be coming home.
