DC Elementary 2024 Winter Concert Times

What better way to get feedback than to ask the young students, right here at Davis County Schools!? On Monday, our Creative Writing students visited kindergarten and second grade classrooms to read children's books which they have been working on for the past few weeks. The high school students read to several small groups of students and asked for feedback from their listeners. Sharing their stories with the younger students allowed them to put the finishing touches on their project. Through our Creative Writing course, students write poems, short stories, plays, news stories, comic strips, children's books, an autobiography and other types of writing that express creativity.

What if students could learn real life/money management skills starting at a young age!? With Mrs. Briley Slayton, they do just that. She has developed a Classroom Economy for her 3rd Graders. They get a paycheck every week which they can use to pay rent for their desk, buy school supplies and purchase fun items - shown in the cart. They are also charged fines or loaned money when necessary.

Mrs. Graves & Mrs. Van Mersbergen hosted a Book Tasting for their 3rd grade class!
Students 'tasted' books from each genre. When 'tasting' a book they look at the title, Table of Contents, back cover, illustrations and then they read a small part of the book to see if they are interested in reading more of it. They record the title, author, genre and a little about the book on a trifold. After each genre has been sampled, they record the type of genre they are most interested in reading. What a fun idea, Mrs. Graves & Mrs. Van Mersbergen!

Many Davis County High School Alumni have inspiring careers to share. We've captured some of them and plan to share more throughout the year. Here's the first one from Deb Smith on her career at W. L. Gore (www.Gore.com/about).
Thank you to those that have already responded. Any DCHS Alumni that wish to share their story with our students, please share here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQgat1plmxt0DC2De6w3hnuyiFUdFTPp2MepUtQUrypZCyPw/viewform

On Friday morning, September 20, Davis County Schools was made aware of a threat from a high school student through a video posted on Tik Tok. The student who made the video was NOT at school today. Officers were called and responded within two minutes. All buildings went into a lockdown status. Shortly after, it was confirmed that the threat was not credible and the lockdown was lifted. We have emergency protocols in place that worked, we appreciate everyone’s swift response. All students and staff are safe. Thank you to our law enforcement for their immediate help.

Beginning Monday, September 16, Preschool - 5th Grade students will go back to a single lunch option. The lunch menu has been updated on the website. We appreciate your flexibilty as we navigate what works best for our students and staff!

As part of our Gear Up! Grant, we are looking to gather info from DC Alumni on 'where they are now' and what they are doing. The plan is to feature our alumni on the big screen during games this fall. We'd love to hear from as many as we can!
