Miss Rudd’s 7th grade ELA class is currently learning about The Jazz Age. They have been reading a novel written in 1924 titled “The Boxcar Children,” which they will be comparing and contrasting to the 2014 film adaptation.
They are learning about music, dance, fashion, and the visual arts in the 1920s. Students will select one of these art forms they believe to be the most influential during The Jazz Age and will create a persuasive “zine” about it.
After learning about art, students will create their own “Tiffany lamp.” Additionally, they will select an art movement (surrealism, fauvism, cubism, or Art Deco) and a topic from the 1920s, and they will convey their topic in a painting of that style. On the last day of school, students will be doing a “gallery walk” to view everyone’s Tiffany lamp, painting, and zine!
Here is a video of a group of 7th graders dancing The Charleston! This has been a fun way to end a most unusual school year.
