Davis County Family,
As you may be aware, there has been an incident of school violence this morning at Perry High School, which is in a community just outside of Des Moines. While the details are not yet clear, our thoughts are with the students, staff, and families of Perry at this time.
We want our families to know that we are in close contact with our local law enforcement officials. They believe the incident in Perry to be isolated and there is no indication of an active threat to school safety here in Davis County.
The safety and security of our school community remains our top priority. We know that some students may struggle to process terrible news like this. Our school counselors are available and ready to assist, as needed. We encourage students to stop by the counseling office at their school at any time if they need support.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your attention to this important message.
Sincerely,
Dan Maeder, Superintendent

Have your ever thought about coaching?
The next Coaching Authorization class offered by Indian Hills Community College will start Monday, Feb. 5, 2024. Four face-to face classes are scheduled on Monday and Tuesday evenings, Feb. 5-6 and 12-13 from 6 to 9 pm.
This course is approved by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. It is a 55-hour comprehensive coaching education course that, upon successful completion, will provide participants with the essential knowledge and credentials to earn their coaching authorization license. This is a hybrid class, 12 hours of face-to-face classroom and the additional online course work completed at the participant’s own pace. At the completion of the course work, participants will take two tests and need an 80% or better pass rate to receive the Coaching Authorization Certificate from IHCC.
Once participants pass and receive our certificate, they can complete their application for coaching authorization with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, completing all background check forms and submitting all the required fees at www.boee.iowa.gov/licauthorization/coaching-authorization.
To register online for the Coaching Authorization Class, go to www.indianhills.edu/cews.
Scroll down to the button that says, “Register for a Continuing Education Class.” From here, you will be able to search and pay for the class. Use “Coaching” for the search word.
The cost of the class is $390 per participant. Credit card payment is required in order to complete the registration.

Good Luck to All of our Dance Team Performers on December 1st, at their State Competition.
