Dear Davis County, At 3:41 today the school district received a phone call stating that an elementary student who was supposed to be picked up at school was not in the pick up line. The elementary office immediately contacted school personnel supervising after-school pick up in attempt to identify the whereabouts of the student. Law enforcement officials were notified around the same time and immediately began the search for the child. During this process, staff were interviewed by law enforcement with the support of the district. At 4:58 the district received notification that the child had ridden the 10-15 transit bus and arrived home safely instead of being picked up at school. The district is in process of reviewing this incident and our after school pick up procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all Davis County students. We are thankful that this student is home safe and are also thankful for the immediate response of law enforcement and everyone’s cooperation to find the whereabouts of this child. Sincerely, Dan Maeder, Superintendent

Snuggle up with some hot coco and watch a movie with your child over the winter break! This is a great way to spend quality time with your child and work in a casual discussion about what the character is feeling, ask your child if they can relate to the character, or maybe share how you relate to the character. There are a lot of great films specific to Middle School that would prompt excellent discussion! Movie Suggestions --> Discussion Topics "Inside Out" prompts to discuss depression. "Up" prompts to discuss grief. "Finding Nemo" prompts to discuss anxiety. "Coco" prompts to discuss dementia. "Eighth Grade" prompts to discuss modern day middle school, emotional changes and friendships. Have a wonderful and safe Holiday everyone!

DCMS 8th graders participated in a "Book Tasting" this week in Mrs. Taylor's Language Arts class! Mrs.Taylor expanded her students palates by providing books to sample. A book tasting is a chance to expose students to different genres, authors and get them engaged and excited about reading. Mrs.Taylor, kicked it up a notch, and set the mood with table cloths and drinks! Such a creative and engaging idea Mrs.Taylor. Thank you for introducing our students to books and authors they may have otherwise, overlooked.

DCMS is SO PROUD of our BIO Girls ! “Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.” ― H. Jackson Brown Jr. Service Project day! The full session was used to give back to our community. It’s a great lesson to remind everyone that giving back has no age requirement. The BIO Girls spent their time today cleaning up the elementary and jr. high school entryways and grounds. They worked hard to get littler and leaves cleaned up as well as cleaned the high touch areas in the entry ways. It is easier to take pride in our school and community (and possibly easier for our brains to think more clearly) when things are cleaned up a bit!! One gentleman at the school was very appreciative and said this "is a never ending task, I clean the leaves out and they just blow right back in and oh my, you guys are doing it right. You are bagging it up for us, THANK YOU!" You made his night ladies! Already making a positive impact!! Nice work and Thank you!

DCMS 7th grade Medical Detective students meticulously dissecting and labeling the sheep brains in Project Lead The Way (PLTW)! This dissection ties into their studies on brain development.  Dissection is an important part of academia as it helps students learn about the internal structures of animals. Helps students learn how the tissues and organs are interrelated. And gives the students an appreciation of the complexity of life. This lab was a hit for our hands-on learners and future vets/doctors/scientists! What do you remember dissecting in grade school?
