Quick Reminder: DCMS Students will be allowed to go to the FREE Arthur Christmas Movie at the Iowa Theater tomorrow. Please send your student to school with cash if you would like for them to be able to purchase a soda or candy bar. Thank you!

Davis County Middle School will be taking students to see the FREE Arthur Christmas Movie at the Iowa Theater on Tuesday, December 21st. If your student would like Pop it will be $3 and Candy is $2. We look forward to a fun filled day before we head into Winter Break!

Dear Davis County,
Today the district was contacted by the Bloomfield Police Department and made aware of a “national threat” of gun violence on December 17th. This “national threat” originated on Tik Tok which you may know is a social media platform where users have posted other disturbing challenges that have created significant distractions to student learning and safety.
While the district and the Bloomfield PD do not believe there is a real threat of danger, we are working together to ensure tomorrow’s school day happens as normal as any other school day by having officers at each building. Again, neither the district nor the Bloomfield PD have significant concerns about this perceived threat but have decided to increase the presence of law enforcement to ensure this type of nonsense does not happen at Davis County.
Please take this as an opportunity to talk to your children about this issue and other harmful garbage that can be found on the internet. Please also look through your child’s devices to know what they are looking at, what sites they are visiting, and who they might be communicating with. Lastly and as a dad, I highly recommend that we all make our children, no matter their age, shut devices off at a reasonable time of night and store them overnight in a central location and not by their beds. We all need good and restful sleep and way too many of us and our kids are on these devices way too much!
Sincerely,
Dan Maeder, Superintendent
Board Games are beneficial to helping your teen develop strong Executive Functioning skills and can contribute their self esteem, confidence, and Mental Health!
What is Executive Functioning?
Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that allow us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully.
Executive Function Skills Expected in Middle School:
Self Regulation
Attention
Task Initiation
Organization
Planning & Prioritizing
Time Management
Easy ways to help students improve Executive Function skills include: posting daily schedules, clear & consistent routines, visual supports, experience, and GAMES!
Memory Games such as: I Spy, Matching Games, Yoga and even Tik Tok dances will help your teen to practice that body movement and impulse control!
Start a new tradition like, family game night! Playing a board game or card game such as: Uno, Fluxx, Clue, BattleShip, Settlers of Catan, Minecraft, Jenga, Don't Break The Ice, Dungeons & Dragons can be great ways to practice self regulation, prioritizing, planning, and attention.
Have fun some good, old fashion, family fun, over winter break!

Dear Davis County,
At 3:41 today the school district received a phone call stating that an elementary student who was supposed to be picked up at school was not in the pick up line. The elementary office immediately contacted school personnel supervising after-school pick up in attempt to identify the whereabouts of the student. Law enforcement officials were notified around the same time and immediately began the search for the child. During this process, staff were interviewed by law enforcement with the support of the district. At 4:58 the district received notification that the child had ridden the 10-15 transit bus and arrived home safely instead of being picked up at school. The district is in process of reviewing this incident and our after school pick up procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all Davis County students. We are thankful that this student is home safe and are also thankful for the immediate response of law enforcement and everyone’s cooperation to find the whereabouts of this child.
Sincerely,
Dan Maeder, Superintendent
