The 8th graders participated in the Reality Store today. It is a financial simulation that allows students to learn more about career planning, money management and budgeting, and decision making. Students go through the process of choosing a career, receiving a “paycheck,” and learning to budget their pay to meet monthly expenses, along with unexpected expenses. This was a "Gear UP" sponsored event.

It's Mustang Pride Day! If you see a group of students out and about - giving back to our amazing community - give them a honk for a job well done! We love this tradition - getting outside together and fostering deeper relationships. ❤️

DC Families, All 7th grade students will be going to Des Moines to visit the Iowa State Capitol building on Wednesday, April 30th. Buses will be leaving from DCMS at 8:30 and arriving in Des Moines around 10:30. Our first stop will be to Pappajohn Sculpture Park to view the outdoor artwork and enjoy our lunches. Then we will drive to the capitol building for a guided tour beginning at 12:15. We will have 4 tour guides, so your child will be put into one of the four groups with at least 2 adult chaperones. We hope to leave Des Moines no later than 2:15, putting us back in Bloomfield around 4:15. Please arrange transportation for your child when we return, as normal bus routes will have already left the building. We will have your child text or call when we get closer to Bloomfield. Your child will need to bring a sack lunch for the day. If needed, your child may get a sack lunch from the school lunch program. Please let us know ahead of time if the school needs to prepare lunch for your child. I also recommend sending your child an extra drink and a few snacks to enjoy on the bus ride home, although this is optional. Your child can also bring a device to play games or listen to music on the ride up and back, but he/she must have headphones. Davis County Middle School will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or broken items

8th Grade students toured John Deere Ottumwa Works this week. We appreciate John Deere offering STEM outreach, including classroom materials for activities. Leading up to the tour, the 8th graders have been building rubber band powered tractors and they also learned about John Deere's plans for equipment that are being developed this year. Teacher Derek Robison shared, "[t]his is our second year to make the trip, it's a great experience for our 8th graders to see the different careers available at a place like John Deere. They also get to see into the world of what it's like to be an engineer. " #STEMatDCMS #DCMS #STEM

Davis County Softball Skills Clinic!!

Mrs. Mason's Advocacy in Action class has been studying various ways in which people advocate for causes they care about. Abby Yearling of Blackboard Printing Company visited class to help them create buttons using designs they've made recently. Students are advocating for environmental causes, positivity, inclusion, importance of voting, blood donation, and other issues.

It's Robo Week (National Robotics Week)! Here are the top three finishers from each of the 7th grade robotics classes who participated in drag races. The overall champions were Regas Panos, Lane Boyd, Nash Good, and Tyson Kurnes. #NationalRoboticsWeek #RoboWeek #DCMS

Please consider rising to the occasion and continuing this great effort of supporting Davis County Athletics and the future generation of student-athletes. "The Davis County A-Club has a long tradition of financially supporting Davis County athletics and activities. Over the course of the last year the A-Club board has worked hard to attract new active members to serve on our Board and to drive our mission forward. Unfortunately, that effort has not produced results. Our current Board and active members have all served for nearing a decade. It’s simply time for a new generation of parents and community members to get involved and help provide our kids the resources needed to be successful. Because of the failure over the last year to attract active members the Board has made the difficult decision to disband the DC A-Club. This decision was not made lightly. The other schools in our conference and those we also compete against will continue to fundraise and collectively work to put their athletes in the best position to be successful. Our hope is that this disbandment is short term and that new members will volunteer to move the A-Club forward. The current Board have all agreed to work with those that are willing to get involved so that they are able to move the Club forward. Those wishing to get actively involved should please reach out to Dave Mason at the school.”

Hello, Davis County families! We understand that finding reliable childcare can be challenging, especially with recent changes to local services. Please know that we are committed to exploring solutions to help families in our community access the childcare they need. While no formal plans have been finalized yet, we are actively collaborating with the Davis County Community Foundation and exploring partnerships with nonprofit organizations to support childcare access. We recognize the urgency of this issue and will keep you updated on our progress in the coming weeks.
