Mrs. Hazen's cooking class after school today has been cancelled.
Tonight is Homecoming Coronation at 7pm.

Mrs. Lujan's Spanish Club spent some time making sugar skulls. They are common decorations/treats for kids during the Latin American holiday, The Day of the Dead. The holiday is much like our Memorial Day except different cultural traditions and beliefs.

Attention Middle School Parents!
Picture packets were handed out today so your student should be bringing them home tonight.
If they did not get one, they can pick one up in the Middle School office.
The middle school football game will start at 5:00 tonight in Cardinal
Middle School Football Update:
The MS FB team travels to Cardinal today for their game. 4:30 start.
Due to a low number of players available for Cardinal, there will ONLY be one game with a potential for extra plays after the "A" game. Both 7th and 8th graders will play.
Mrs. Mason's Creative Writing students are working on a children's literature unit where they will write their own children's books. They went to the public library to explore different titles, specifically looking for themes presented in books for children ages 5-8. Margaret Nuttall, the children's services librarian, shared information about her role at the library, as well as the services the library offers to the public. Thanks for collaborating with us, Bloomfield Public Library!

Career-Connected Learning is a focus at DCS from K to 12. Many of our courses and classrooms allow students to explore careers through guest speakers, job shadows, research and more. One message we share with our students is that it is okay to change your mind. We remind them that eliminating choices is still moving forward. Julie Buttell, thank you for sharing your story and showing students that sometimes plans change.

What if students could learn real life/money management skills starting at a young age!? With Mrs. Briley Slayton, they do just that. She has developed a Classroom Economy for her 3rd Graders. They get a paycheck every week which they can use to pay rent for their desk, buy school supplies and purchase fun items - shown in the cart. They are also charged fines or loaned money when necessary.

Homecoming is fast approaching!! Please make sure your student turns in their permission note to the office no later than Monday Oct. 7th!!

Davis County Middle School Halloween Activity Night!!

Monday, October 7th, DCHS will be hosting Iron Man Volleyball!
High school teams of 6 boys will be competing for class cup points! It will start at 7 in the gym. It will be open to the public - we ask for a donation of 1 canned food item that will go to our high school food pantry.

Mrs. Graves & Mrs. Van Mersbergen hosted a Book Tasting for their 3rd grade class!
Students 'tasted' books from each genre. When 'tasting' a book they look at the title, Table of Contents, back cover, illustrations and then they read a small part of the book to see if they are interested in reading more of it. They record the title, author, genre and a little about the book on a trifold. After each genre has been sampled, they record the type of genre they are most interested in reading. What a fun idea, Mrs. Graves & Mrs. Van Mersbergen!
