We understand that finding reliable childcare can be challenging, especially with recent changes to local services. Please know that we are committed to exploring solutions to help families in our community access the childcare they need.
While no formal plans have been finalized yet, we are actively collaborating with the Davis County Community Foundation and exploring partnerships with nonprofit organizations to support childcare access. We recognize the urgency of this issue and will keep you updated on our progress in the coming weeks.
Additionally, we are pleased to share that the district will offer preschool services for all four-year-olds next year. To enroll, call 641-664-2200, extension 4.

Get ready for your academic flex, Mustangs! Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress, better known as ISASP, begins next week. High School students and families can save and reference this graphic for details.
DCHS Anatomy classes had the chance to learn all about the heart and its history. They also learned about decisions made regarding heart transplants. At the end of it all, they got to dissect a heart to take a closer look at how it really works.

Great start to the track season! The Mustang boys Distance Medley team finished in 2nd place at the ISU indoor meet. Their time of 3:38.27 was a meet record. Runners were Cason Young, Blaine Meyer, Hank Bulechek and Charlie Warren. Great start boys!

Thank you to Andrew Woodard and the Elliot Oil BP Bloomfield staff for their support of Mustang Athletics. A great group of senior track runners were presented the annual donation today. Good Luck to our track teams on Thursday as they compete at their first indoor meet in Pella and at Iowa State. Thank you to the community for supporting this fundraising effort.

Dear Davis County Families,
With profound sadness, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Elias Steffen, beloved son of Kyle and TaNisha and cherished brother of Everleigh and Leo. As many of you know, the Steffen family has faced an incredibly difficult journey with Elias’s health. After exhausting all possible options, they have had to say goodbye to their beloved son and brother.
There are no words to fully express the depth of this loss, and our hearts go out to the Steffen family during this unimaginable time. As a school community, we know that grief touches each of us differently, and our children may have questions or emotions they struggle to understand.
If you are looking for ways to support your child in processing this loss, here are a few suggestions:
- Use simple, honest, and age-appropriate language.
- Encourage them to ask questions and answer as best you can.
- Let them know their feelings—whether sadness, confusion, or even anger—are normal and valid.
- Remind them they are not alone, and that our school community is here to support them.
Our school counselors and staff are available to support both students and families during this difficult time. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you or your child need guidance or a listening ear.
Out of respect for the Steffen family’s privacy, we kindly ask that everyone allow them the space they need as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. In particular, we ask that students refrain from asking the family about Elias's passing while at school. School can be a place of comfort and routine for them, and giving them the opportunity to engage in their day without difficult conversations will be an important part of their healing. Your quiet support, thoughts, and prayers mean so much to them.
In the days ahead, let’s continue to come together as a community, offering love, strength, and compassion to one another.
The 7th grade Medical Detectives class is building neuron models with art materials. They then are taking stop motion pictures of a "signal" traveling through the neuron and turning the pictures into a GIF. Students will use their knowledge to diagnose patients with nervous system disorders before learning about the brain.

Fifth grade started learning about space systems this week! Their goal is to discover why the moon sometimes appears during the day, and other times with the stars in the night. They started by doing an experiment to track the sun's position in the sky by measuring shadows.
